Flying cars: Radical concept design aims high

jjjerrycole says:

Remember what they said about the Wright bros. and Curtis? I think somehow
the kinks get worked out, and sometime in the future, carplanes will make
their debut, and eventually become a viable transportation alternative.
When they read our musings two hundred years from now, some will think how
primitive we were in the early 21st century. Closed minds, blind to the
past which always paves the way, for the future. “Yup, those 2014’ers sure
were narrow minded, didn’t belive in flying saucers, and aliens. Uh, uh
didn’t think we’d populate the universe, back then. And marriage. They
made a big deal about what they called gay marriage back then. What would
they think about our laws allowing marriage to extra terrestials?”

Gosh, I wonder what they’ll have to say about Democrats and Republicans.

Random Shenanigans 101 says:

Cool design but it’s a little flawed…They should add some of the
technology from the newly realized hoveboards to make it safe…

ArJuna22 says:

This design will never fly.

Alejandro Arenas says:

Flying cars give people the ability to go ANYWHERE. They’re not bound to
the government-built roads and highways. The powers at be will not allow a
“flying car” to become widely used. They don’t want people to have that
kind of freedom.
I would LOVE for there to be flying cars available for the masses, but
don’t get your hopes up.

Exeeding Panic says:

jesus we may have a car crash in mid air mate 😛 O_o

Polina, you may not be able to understand because she is speaking English

great! *NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!*

Max Steel says:

I find the design to be poor and the tech should be obsolete in 3 years,
BUT
the fact that the industry is headed this way makes for very good news
indeed

Cloxxki says:

No bdy lift to mention, so no glide, all lift from props. I know it works
for quadcopters, but is that efficient at high speed, long range?
Quadcopers usually only last a few minutes on their battteries. I know fuel
has more energy density…

Zekee27 says:

before this is common, it will take one hell of a lifetime… the first
ones will only be available to rich people, obviously, then there has to be
regulations, and maybe then it will become more common.. but people can
barelay drive, I cant see this becoming common unless the technology is
REALLY reliable, you would have to have little to no control over it, only
pre-programmed destinations… imagine any kind of breakdown on this =
death

*Terrafugia TF-X Flying Car – a plug-in Hybrid with Vertical Takeoff and
Landing Capability*

TF-X™ is Terrafugia’s vision for the future of personal transportation. A
four-seat, plug-in hybrid electric flying car with fly-by-wire vertical
takeoff and landing (VTOL) capabilities, TF-X™ is designed to bring
personal aviation to the world. The design will make use of the high power
density and reliability of modern electric motors in combination with
parallel power and control system architectures to achieve a higher level
of safety than modern automobiles. TF-X™ will provide true door-to-door
transportation combined with the freedom of vertical takeoff and landing —
creating a new dimension of personal mobility.

They have the Transition already today which is street legal…. if the
TF-X “takes off” it should revolutionise personal travel…

ingrid19st says:

Nice. But I wonder how air traffic will be regulated when many people will
have these flying cars.

mk ultra says:

frickin neat!

Paul Woodford says:

Interesting concept. Good redundancy in power and control. I would think
the biggest weak point in safety would be the electrical system that
controls the propellers. The battery would be the single point of failure.
I assume a high speed conventional landing on a long runway is possible in
an emergency but maybe only by a skilled pilot. If the main engine fails
the electrical power would be able to make a fairly easy VTOL landing (as
long as you had a small flat patch of land nearby)

Hairee Pothead says:

Parachute for an emergency soft landing if the engine stalls in mid air.

XxR3DCOUGARxX says:

well the drunk drivers are gonna be dead xD atleast I bet

We’ll never have fly cars for one simple reason. “Flying Car Accident.”

Nice

BehaviorDF says:

I bet if they invested in design a bit more there would be a lot more
funding. Design it like a lamborghini Veneno and views will jump from 14
thousand to billions.

Rob Orlando says:

Human restrictions! We should have fiber optic travel by now!

Juan Carlos Aponte says:

Please, try to change the designs! All peoples like to see a Viper or
Lamborghini better designs! You are talking about the future! This models
like a very old Volkswagen!

Chalard Waongkarasin says:

good…i like

Adam Vu says:

I wish to have a flying car.

Bill Parker says:

This will never be flown without a licensed pilot in the U.S.

SneakySandhu says:

normal cars price? A normal car price is around 5 to 10 lakh. I don’t see
this happening, it gonna demand a premium 😛 Around 1-2crore for sure!

HerrKuhn928 says:

Looks like another 3D model of something that can never be…

Matthew Cranwell says:

They’ll use autopilot like any other plane
