In the second part of our super naked group test we take the KTM 1290 Super Duke R, Aprilia Tuono V4R and Triumph Speed Triple to our testing ground at Bruntingthorpe to thrash the hammer out of them and find out which is the fastest.

We also put the Aprilia and KTM on the dyno to see which makes the most power and torque.

Get the best of biking EVERY day…

secondarychaos says:

Both the KTM and Aprilia look like monsters, and it seems the Aprilia wins
75/25 over the KTM in these comparisons. I have to ask though, how big of a
difference is there between the bikes in terms of fun, rideability, etc.?

MCN - Motorcyclenews.com says:

Evening! Thanks for the (mostly) kind comments. If you read the full test
in the paper (or digital edition) then you’ll get EVERY stat you’ll ever
need. Also: we didn’t Dyno the speed triple this time ’cause we’ve done it
before – we only dyno’d the new bikes for expediency (the numbers are in
the paper for ALL three bikes though). I know we say it a lot BUT these
videos are often ‘companion’ pieces to our ‘day jobs’ of writing the
world’s best, weekly motorcycle publication :)

MCN - Motorcyclenews.com says:

Oh and the numbers drop out for a split second on the Aprilia run because
the satellite signal dropped for a bit. Nothing sinister, promise :)

Liam J says:

Sore neck?

dizzy coconut says:

I dont know whats wrong with the bikes or if you had a 100 kph head wind
but those speed numbers are a joke, i mean 240kph the speed triple and 255
the superduke r????????? are you kidding, i,ve clocked just over 250 on my
street triple stock!! and 240 on my old ktm 950sm! and the old superduke
the 990 went about 250, so there is really something wrong with those top
speeds, for fuck shake my girlfriend clocked 220 on her old kawasaki er6n
with 70 something horsepower!

MCN - Motorcyclenews.com says:

If you’ve ever been in a dyno room, you’ll understand why the audio was too
‘peaky’ to use… We used music rather than just have a load of distortion.

Also, were used GPS to measure the speed which is why the dials vs computer
numbers are different.

BLACK MAMBA says:

the tuono is not a naked, it is a rsv4 without fairings and with the
steering cross

Zone Television says:

What the ? ….. Errrm Speed Triple H Power/Torque ? Hello ?

NZsarge1 says:

S1000R?

controlgames says:

Why music

DUCzillaMonster says:

153mph on my monster s4 with 916cc and 101hp, not bad at all !!! all
standard trim!!!

Kip Kipper says:
DmaxHd says:

Why is the Truimph even in this test ? My 97 TL1000s with a couple of
mods (yosh exhaust and airbox mod ) is faster than the speed triple. My
Friend had an 07 lime green one and I don’t think they’ve changed much
since .He even had a power commander and arrow exhaust .

lukaslafour says:

284km/h in the ktm IS NOT 160mph, IT’S 177mph!!!

alexini5 says:

Why tuono has the fairing on?

crotchrocket says:

Did he just say Aprilia and Brilliant Electronics in the same sentence!! I
thought suddenly loosing all electrics in the rain gave Aprilia’s
‘character’

Lee Marsh says:

Meaningless in some respects as we’ll buy on looks and ride, usually in
that order, oh and money.

YouTuttoChannel YTP says:

ktm the best

H.S .J says:

@4:11 or so why does gps speed monitor digital clock drops to 0mph and then
jumped to 164 in the end……. also Aprilia was the only one shot from a
view that the Speedo wasn’t visible…

KrAzYDucati says:

The KTMs torque must make it a wheelie machine… I want i want i want!

Jason Nayel says:

I cant find this damn article, and the tuono speedo drops off. Which
accelerates faster?

heinzi evilT says:

Hi Guys, thanks for the great video 😉
Could you eventually let me know what model this cool helmet at 01:54 is,
i’m unable to find it.
thanks,
Thomas

Darren Stocker says:

Jesus and I thought your other videos were a pile of tosh until I saw this
one . Great if you wanna catch 40 winks.

Mcn lives upto it’s name again more crap than news

fozandharley says:

Ouch the ktm was sold on its 180bhp capabilities and for a 14,000 pound
bike I’d want that to ring true, I’ll stick with my proven 187bhp b king as
a super naked cheers :)

Rogent X says:

very cool :)

Tom Traynor says:

So the KTM has as much torque as the Tuono’s MAX at 3700 RPM’s.
Compelling….. I own a Tuono and while it is no doubt fast–lifting off
like a jet and oops–I am illegal again. Maybe the KTM is more “street
fun”?

Killgroup says:

Runway looks horrible quality, surely would’ve got better results if you’d
been on a better surface?

Scott Pargett says:

Sick turntable scratching!!

Julián Rodríguez says:
Mikael Gustafsson says:

hehe at 3 min u clearly hear a v4 and not a v-twin taking off, did the ktm
sound that bad so u had the tuono launch twice? :D

H.S .J says:

@4:11 or so why does gps speed monitor digital clock drops to 0mph and then

khamid1 says:

99 ft-lb of torque at the wheel…..SWEET JESUS!

Unconnect3d says:

For every negative comment, theres 1,000 people who appreciated the video,
Thanks for making these

Imperial Maniac says:

They didn’t put the triple on the dyno because its clearly not anywhere
near the levels of power that the other two have, it would have been
pointless.

Rasorblade says:

Why does the Aprilia have the wind shield!? And why not filming from the
same position as the other two bikes..?

The wind shield is not a equipped on a standard Aprilia an is helping the
driver to gain a higher top speed.

GR1M35TR33T says:

WHY MUSIC OVER THE TOP SPEED RUNS AND THAT?!?!? AWFUL.

firebladeflow says:

How hard can it be to make a proper video of a couple of wounderful and
beautiful machines… Why don’t you quit and try something simpler for a
job. I mean seriously, youtube is full of proper sound videos on dynos.

TorchStreet Green says:

And what about KMP? :(

Lee Haynesworth says:

love the soundtrack. lol

full full says:

163 à la roue ! pas mal pour un BI ! quand au compteur faut qu’il fasse un
effort de justesse quand même ….

salbandino says:

What’s the name of the songs used in the video – love the one on the 2 mile
strip.

evanX says:

Man I thought those bikes would have been faster. I got my stock 2002 honda
cbr 600 f4i to 151mph in 5th gear before I started slowing down. I also
didn’t have a gps so maybe I wasn’t going that fast.

zulembong says:

tq for this test MCN. KTM is overrated. Tuono V4 rocks!

marcin l says:

sad that bmw 1000r dont be in this comparision

MrDevo5 says:

pfft! I had 162 out of my 2007 speedy

Smatnm says:

What happened to the Speed dyno run?

I find it slightly baffling that you play music over these videos rather
than get good quality audio of the bikes themselves.

McMax46 says:

Are the hp on the rear wheel, on the clutch oder the power of the engine?

Terry Jones says:

Comparing super nakeds against each other doesn’t tell us how the compare
to other styles of bike… fair enough the dyno is a dyno but standing
start acceleration on a perfectly flat clear surface… give us a bar chart
comparing supernakeds against fully faired sports bikes, semi faired/tourer
and adventurer on the same run at the same day.

Spectolux says:

Next….a head-on aesthetics comparo.
