On this episode of Ignition, presented by Tire Rack, Carlos Lago tests and reviews the new ATS-V, Cadillac’s open assault on the BMW M3. In the ATS-V’s arsenal are more power and torque from its twin-turbo V-6, adjustable dampers, an electronically controlled differential, a clever 8-speed automatic, and very sticky Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. Through a drive on the road and a trip to the Circuit of the Americas track, we find out of the ATS-V has what it takes.

Ignition appears every other Monday on the Motor Trend Youtube channel. http://www.youtube.com/motortrend

Carlos heads to Austin to lap Cadillac’s newest coupe: the ATS-V.

GT6SuzukaTimeTrials says:

Dude you almost murdered that turtle 10:03 wtf

Motor Trend Magazine says:

Cadillac ATS-V.

Do you think it can take on the BMW M3?

Rens van der Meijden says:

Why risk the life of that turtle

jay y says:

I6>V6

JD JoyrideTV says:

Carlos you look kinda like Paul Walker.

BubbaSmurfingSon says:

But can it do burnouts

nj4ck says:

GM has really been stepping up their game lately, but the exterior design
still looks sort of plastiky-japanese-ish IMO. They had a good thing going
with the Corvette C7, then they messed up the rear… I think they should
get a few italian designers.

WRXXXual says:

Hmmm, Carlos, to me it sounds like you did a masterful job of talking
around the impression that you liked the M4 more.

Frankly this class of car just seems boring now. They are just way too
refined, for something that’s supposed to be fun, and hairy-chested.

whosthabiatchnow says:

Great car. But american car manufacturers… Please stop with the ugly
dashboards… I mean what the actual fuck? We are in the 21st century for
crying out loud, and this isn’t a 15k car… It’s where you sit, it’s what
you see and touch while driving it. It’s important!

Keith C. Perry says:

#Cadillac #ATS-V

SInce I’m a vehicle state of mind…

The whole Cadillac vs. BMW vs. Audi (geez, why do people forget Audi?!?!?)
aside. I’m looking forward to driving this. I actually like the size of
the ATS now- it doesn’t feel as cramped and smallish as the first models
compared to the mid-sized big brother CTS trim.

Seems like there’s more focus on the “small” sedan now. Obviously the BMW
continues to dominate this class with the M3 and newer M4 but the S3 and S4
from Audi have been in Audi’s lineup for while now too (the S4 really, the
S3 is also a newer offering). Cadillac is actually the newest kid on this
block. The ATS has done so well for them a V-series was pretty much a
given.

I like this trend of going smaller- its especially helpful in the cities
and areas with higher population densities. Not everyone likes or want a
smart car (nor should they) so seeing strong small sedan offerings going to
continue to push innovation.

Slickpete83 says:

needs more weight reduction 3750lbs is too heavy , like 3300-3500lbs , they
need to make a track version that lets u delete options , and yes i know
its Cadillac

Renan Barao says:

You should a head to head episode between Mayweather and Pacquaio

codebebop says:

Another techno gizmo junk car in my opinion. More things to break, more
costs involved, and let’s not forget big brother spying on your every turn,
stop, speeding, farting, picking your nose(yeah some models have inside
cameras, etc).

Is there any car being made that’s strictly a mechanical beast of
engineering without the gadget crap? One where the driver’s ability
determines the other half of the performance equation?

Jerry Mazariego says:

Damn I wanted to see that turtle get ran over

MotoGuide says:

A proper Ignition Episode, exuding sincerity! Can’t wait for the H2H!

ThatSimChannel ! says:

M3 will always reign supreme!!!

pontiacGXPfan says:

Can i get a wreath to go with the crest? It just doesn’t look good without
it.

Mojo Mojo - pc gaming and more says:

German engineering is the best in the world

Sandu Zmeu says:

Just before I watch this video, I would just going to say that Cadillac
will never have what it takes to be on the same level as BMW M anything…
ever.

You can get p1 vs 918, but couldn’t get a m3 to compare it a hunk of metal.
ATS-V is good on paper though.

bud ley says:

Looks like an oldish lexus

Marco Vande says:

It’s certainly not better looking, I’d rather lose in an M3 than win in
this crap

theblackout8080 says:

It looks better than the M3

Mcboernester says:

Looks good, sounds boring. Just like the latest M3

Eric Feliciano says:

Very Nice ride. I would like to see it go against the MB AMG C 63

Ali Bin Madhi says:

Carlos can be a star in fast and furious 8. RIP Paul Walker

Whoracle8531 says:

the interior still sucks tho..

MIke Mancino says:

I really like the m3 more, but I think both m3 and the V come with lame
engines these days. Won’t buy either one.

Ty Bailey says:

70,000 for a cadillac yeah no thanks. i wouldnt pay that money for a car
that the electrics wont even last a 100k miles

Sahnepower1 says:

It would be much cooler and better with a V8, even better than the m4,
because it has V6 twin turbo, and turbocharged engines suck

Christian Augustin says:

“Hi I’m Tommy the turtle, and today on Jackass….”

Daniel Maia says:

I don’t know what is more usual from MT: the GM biased reviews or the cheap
shots at Ferrari for not giving them cars for their biased hate reviews

lagynas says:

Why I can’t see smile on his face when he says it fun to drive ATS-V. Was
he forced to to say that?

Ian Jacob says:

I don’t know why you wouldn’t just buy the new vett if your going for
American performance.

Mr318live says:

Its great to see Cadillac in this segment. Feels like I’ve been waiting
since forever for GM to get here. Like one commenter said “Cadillac is
actually the newest kid on this block” and even if it doesn’t come out on
top it is impressive to see how far you can come in a few years. The 3
series will still be able to out accelerate the ATS but the V will be right
there with every turn the M3 makes. Long live this car segment!!!!

Aaron Elliott says:

Nice car, i like the overall shape of it, But the head and tail lights on
this thing, I dunno man, They’re just not for me…

altimgamr says:

LOVE this badass car! But would rather have the manual

HEKTIC458 says:

It doesn’t sound nice. It’s a shame because the rest of the car looks
alright

Christopher Ames says:

Some brand new Cadillac sweetness!!!

audioh0lic says:

I’d take the M3 anytime. Its just so much more refined. You can drive an M3
and everybody sees a 3 series. This just screams. Each to his own I guess.

quikagc5 says:

Cadillac, why didn’t you use the new Corvette LT1 V8? Why????

Khalil Missaoui says:

Size change

fauzi hassan says:

they really want to beat the M3 ..so they throw everything at it…hmmm
except the looks. look at that rear spoiler..nasty…

Jon Dahl says:

The turtle could not have been safer with an experienced driver like Carlos
Lago behind the wheel.

That’s why he’s not the host of Roadkill.

Ricardo Perez says:

its not better than the M3 LOL, btw look at the trap speeds in the 1/4
mile, M3 119MPH and ATSV 114MPH, shows how underrated the M3/M4 is.

thisguy177 says:

for being so quiet this car coming only with the V6. it is kind of a
sleeper in a way.
its not a V8 or a corvette i mean it is a cadillac. i would buy this car
used for about 20-25k someday definately. looks awesome and sounds good and
looks real comfortable the interior. m3? pay more get a little more
performance or luxury. but whats the cost of each car thats the real
winner. if one car cost 15k more he loses automatically. Motor Trend you
cant compare cars that arent within 10k price of each other.

Jonathan Daniels says:

Just waiting for these German c*cksuckers to find a fault with it. They
never disappoint.

SI RICKO says:

This is the Cadillac ATS-V and its mission is simple be better, faster, and
more funner, then the BMW M3 —————–Wait but we don’t have A M3
to test it against. LMFAO Funking really Motor Trend you guys get your
hands on all these high end cars to test but couldn’t get your hands on A
M3, to test Against this ATS for A head to head…. um yeah spidey senses
it tell me bull shit. lol Never the less the ATS-V is sick as fuck but
don’t call A best like the M3! out if you don’t have it there to test!

Garrett Giuffre says:

Turtle? Was that really just on the track?
Second, those numbers are almost dead on to the V2 CTS-V. Cadillac is doing
an amazing job at joining the luxury/performance car market. Anyone who’s
says different is just plain ignorant.

+Cadillac first off, great improvements. I’m so happy to see you’re still
including quality venders Recaro and Brembo. The improvement in your Magna
ride technology and Bi-Mode exhaust in such a short time is just uncanny.
Not even to mention how advanced your traction management system has
became! You’re in the M3/C63 ballpark now and that’s great. But you’re not
a Benz or BMW, you’re about 10% to high on your MSRP.

BMW has been known to be “the drivers car” since forever and has a HUGE
loyal following.

The C63 AMG I would solely buy for the sound the tail pipes make, and is
more then worthy to wear the AMG badge.

You no longer have any niche that makes GM special ( OnStar, apps, free
service plans, XM ) everyone has some form of this stuff. I will give you
the safety alert seats! Love it! You need to find something that will make
you stand out when people are shopping in the luxury/performance market.
Open the GMPP for the new V models! “Performance upgrades that wont effect
your warranty”! Intakes, intercoolers, Small ECU upgrades for a 10-25 HP
gain, lighter brake rotors, light wheel options with a more aggressive tire
such as the one on the ZL1/Z06. Give us options! You don’t have to have
ceramic brakes standard, but I sure as heck want an option to choose.
Also, stay on top of your CUE system. Ford lost a boat load of customers
because it initially was terrible and you’re very close to following in
their foot steps. I can’t stress then enough, don’t cheap out on the TECH!
Put USBs everywhere! Front seat, back seat, glove box, trunk! Everywhere.
Last but not least, I do have a small complaint. Do something! Sooomething!
With the speedometer, it makes the ATS gauges which you’re always looking
at appear so cheap! Make it all digital or give it some accents, its
terribly ugly and should only belong in a base model ATS.

I hope someone at Cadillac is listening on the improvements so one day
Cadillac can beat the German’s at their own game!

‘Merica!
