MCN took the top dog of adventure bikes, the BMW R1200GS to South Wales to test it against Yamaha’s stalwart Super Tenere, last year’s winner the Triumph Explorer, and KTM’s new pretender the 1190 Adventure R. As well as three days of road riding, we also took them off road with pro rider Llewellyn Pavey.

petotoronto says:

Why would you test and compare the off-road bikes with street tires in a
mud and snow???

TS50ER says:

Standing next to a proper off-road machine, a Husqvarna and talking about
the gravel/unsealed road capabilities of the Blotter Class Adventure Bikes
says it all really.

Samual Iam says:

So to sum it all up all these bikes are, “yeah”. Well done MCN. You sure
know how to pick’em.

Stephan Eichenlaub says:

Street tyres on slippery tracks that can hardly be called offroad? What
should this “test” show? That the rider with all his experience is scared
of the bikes?

Genki Dama says:

Did you guys get 0 footage of the Triumph off-road? You just show the same
clip of it going by on pavement back to back.

Ben Dixon says:

um Chris Birch gives KTM1190 Wings! This is how you do it

Rwecosher says:

The triumph is a pointless bike only built to capture sales going to other
‘adventure’ bikes. As proved here, it’s useless off-road which begs the
question, why not just be fullfilled in your road riding experience and buy
a Trophy? One day, as is the case now with magazines harping on about when
Britain went mad for sportsbikes, we’ll be looking back saying, “remember
when we all pretended we were off roaders buying bikes that couldn’t go
off-road, and not ever going off road? WTF was all that about?” We are but
stupid boys with stupid toys.

Rick Skinner says:

another MCN BMW love fest… and this is off-road riding!!?? I’ve taken
the Super Tenere on REAL off road adventures on real mountain roads, jeep
trails and tracks where only the KTM could go… the BMW never… if your
really interested in knowing what these bikes can do, this review is a
waste of your time…

KENSDAM says:

Im on the Super Tenere and live on some of the worst road you can say you
have ridden. It handles well.
I weight 130kgs, so a smaller test pilot like on this video probably will
battle to handle it. it could have an ounce more throttle but in difficult
situations you dont want too much power. Never the less, The Tenere is
reliable good on tar and off road. Ground clearance worries me a little
too, but im extremely happy with mine. Well done Yamaha.

jonnywave38 says:

This young chap is Si Pavey’s son he has grown up on two wheels and is very
capable and knowledgable. He is not a TV presenter so may not come across
well on camera. Llewelyn can ride, seriously- if most of you guys
commenting negatively could ride as well as him you would be entering the
Dakar.

unnervingfalcon says:

They didn’t put off-road tires on. This isn’t a true test then.

Le On line vk3 says:

during the video that guy said exactly 30 times ”yeah” :D

Le On line vk3 says:

yeah yeah yeah

nokmuay1970 says:

We all knew and and I think MCN did too, but they are pro BMW… LOL now
their rider basically said if you are a noob ride BMW, if you are not, then
ride KTM. 😀 no training wheels plz, Ill take the KTM

Double R says:

loool

Merudo says:

MCN tested the explorer in some much more serious offroad conditions in a
previous video, they compared the super tenere, 990 adv, the outgoing
R1200GSA and the Explorer… Worth a watch and it’s definitely what I’d
want to see them do with these newer bikes. They put them all on the same
tyres and the same luggage weight, and then tested them all on a really
cold looking adventure ride. I just want to see how these NEW bikes handle
it! The video is worth checking out if you’re interested.

David Gough says:

Looked for a useful comment in the video, I know, silly of me…

TheCloudhopper says:

Pretty much. And despite what they state up their, it wasn’t even the
Adventure R, if you look closely you’ll find its the normal, non-offroad
verison. Imagine how the REAL Adventure R would have destroyed the R1200GS
offroad.

Luís Oliveira says:

It’s not the R model! However still beats both of them by miles!! Can’t
wait to try the 1190

playermatti says:

BEST BIKE’S CHANNEL ON UTUBE

nokmuay1970 says:

Yeah and imagine if they used the Adv R version, not the normal version 😀

VolV8 says:

And how was the Husky TE449?

ossa60 says:

I fucking envy you!

Merudo says:

I’m a little bit disappointed to say the least, was kind of hoping to see
some proper offroading instead of riding around a flat dirt track, in some
snow beside the track and one small jump. I know these big machines are
never going to be the same as a 450 enduro machine, but I would love to see
how they handle real world offroad conditions that aren’t the equivalent of
a groomed fire trail or something. Much like the older video where the GSA
and 990 ADV and others were compared. Anyone agree?

iridemotorbikes says:

Awesome my bike is just “Average”!!! LOL

lamilumag says:

the electronics “not as good as on the bmw” ? – seriously? it got offroad
traction control that let’s you slide to a certain point and an offroad abs
setting where you can lock the rear wheel while having abs on the front…
you guy’s don’t really seem to have an idea what you’re talking about.
leave the enduro tests to michael guy!

Andrés Padilla says:

So he basically said the KTM is the best ONE! that’s it. :o)

Hugo Brás Da Costa says:

I agree. And I’m disappointed that he said the Explorer has no off road
capability… really? No capability at all?

ossa60 says:

that is if you got one!!!

ylism says:

Witch bike being stock will handle being dropped the most, that is a
likelihood in wet, and lose roads, how much damage can they take, before
there unusable, the BMW looked to be the easiest to damage, because of it
boxer design. It would seem to me the more novice the rider, the more
damage that could happen, so that should be a part of the test. After all
this was a ” Adventure Bikes test ” BTW some really nice rides, what is the
price range ? Well that is my 2 cents, yl

HesteBremse says:

Good Review – very clear no BS information – thanks ;).

ikkeprofilermeg says:

More adventure bike videos! Hopefully some more in the 600-990 range

Getthefuckoffmylawn says:

I vote for th ktm 1190 adventure r.

induristan says:

I missed the R version of the KTM! For the next off road Adventure Bike
review please consider to mount the bikes on identical tyres like TKC 80, K
60 or stuff. No one would go on an offroad trip with the tyres originally
fitted!

Joe FYYFF says:

The BMW is a “serious” off-road bike? Really? Hahahahahahahahahaha.

pietkun007 says:

Got the KTM 1190 R! Best adventure bike ever! BMW is too slow, heavy to big
and I hate the engines power delivery, front suspension and the cylinders
on the sides. BMW was never good in being n off-road bike, is not good on
road either. Been there done that! Bye, bye BMW’s. Yamaha’s biggest problem
is the engine – what a underpowered piece of (heavy) scrap.

rambo beazy says:

yea, yea and um yea.

Richard Busa says:

Can’t wait to ride the KTM… they have just landed in our shops down under
🙂

Jose Armenteros says:

Yes yea yes yea no yea the bm right yea yeah the bm electronics. What the
fuck are they going on about? How come they can say all three letters
K.T.M. yet they can’t say B…M….W. a major sign of ignorance is when 80
percent of a someone’s statement is yeah uh and you know.

Victor del Razo says:

I would like to know what he thinks of the Ducati Multistrada…

Cobra Jett says:

lol exactly! what fucking electronics are they talking about specifically?
fail of a test

Steamin Steven says:

nice review!

Ellis01234567890 says:

These bikes aren’t off road bikes. They are road bikes that can do a little
off roading.

Matic Krmec says:

KTM definitely!! 😀 Gotta call the dealership to arrange some one on one
time for me 😀

AssaultMechRider675 says:

At 1:57 “… the abs and traction control actually work off road…” and
the dude stacks it! LOL KTM ‘cos it looks better! =D

BigBikeMad says:

Good review. You blokes are getting good at this…!

ZEUKI1 says:

wow, its so funny to watch all these different reviews of different bikes,
some of the comments feel very biased. ” the more serious off road bikes”
as they show the bmw with its cast wheels, ha ha ha haa .

TheRidingKnight says:

Well, it’s easy to see that MCN does have a little boner for the GS’s,
regardless of what sort of test they put them through.

ellomirza says:

I bet his favorite band is The Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

J Bensley says:
